Biz Blogs

Blogs that are written by companies and organisations are known as business blogs and are a great way to communicate with your customers, partners and employees. Business blogs are “good for business” according to Bill Gates. So it must be true.

Bliki

A blog that can be edited by readers or an agreed group of collaborators is known as a bliki – a combination of a blog and a wiki. It is also a fall-down-drunk cocktail made with Vodka, Rum and grenadine. And don’t ask us how we know this.

Blog

Although now being used by businesses, a weblog or blog is more often than not a frequently updated personal online journal kept by a blogger. Entries or posts are in reverse chronological order and can be insightful, witty and philosophical. Or maybe not.

Blog digest

A blog digest reports on, and summarises, other related blogs on a daily basis. A blog digest can be really useful if you’re in a bit of a rush.

Blog storm

A blog storm or blog swarm is when bloggers in the blogosphere write thousands of posts about a subject which then forces the story into the mainstream media. Never underestimate the power of the blogger.

Rich, famous, fashionable celebrities are known as the glitterati. Influential, knowledgeable and intelligent bloggers are known as the blogerati. They are rarely one of the same.

Blogger

A weblogger or blogger is someone who writes a blog. Blogger is also one of the oldest blogging services available and is owned by Google. What isn’t owned by Google?

Blogger bash

When bloggers get to party with each other in real life it’s called a blogger bash. Maybe great fun. Or may be very weird.

Bloglines

Bloglines is the most popular news aggregator which browses blogs and podcasts, and delivers a summary of the information to the Bloglines website. Bloglines was started by Mark Fletcher in 2003 and sold to Ask Jeeves in 2005 for a whole lotta dosh.

Blogosphere

The happy, smiley online community of blogs and bloggers is known as the blogosphere. It’s a place where you can exchange views, get advice and have a good time. It’s a bit like the Shire in Lord of the Rings.

Blogroll

A blogroll is a list of links to other ‘interesting’ blogs and websites and is normally situated at the side of a blog. A blogroll is not the white paper stuff that sits next to the loo.

BlogThis!

A click on the BlogThis! button on your browser tool bar will allow any article you are reading to be added to your own blog. A quick an easy way of adding cool content to your blog when you can’t think of anything interesting to say yourself.

Blooker Prize

It had to happen. A literary prize for the best books based on blogs - blooks - is known as the Blooker Prize.  Entries have included the diaries of a dysfunctional flight attendant and the doorbells of Florence. No, really.

Bookmarking

You know how it is. You’ve just found an online flight to Fuerteventura for only £4.50 and now you can’t remember what site it’s on. In future save your fave site addresses by bookmarking them. Just click the bookmark button or the ‘add to favourites’ button on your browser tool bar. Ole.

Brochureware

Sounds like Tupperware but it’s not nearly as useful. Brochureware is when the text from a brochure gets plonked straight onto a website without revision, and with complete disregard to usability, keywords or search terms. Avoid at all costs.

Often created by word of mouth and viral marketing, buzz is the word-on-the-street, ear-to-the-ground, finger-on-the-pulse kind of thing that gets people jumping up and down with excitement about a product or service. You also get a buzz when you jump out of a plane. Woo-hooo.
