A bit like Alice in Wonderland, a landing page is where a site visitor will end up when they click on a link or online advertisement. Not necessarily the home page, the landing page will reflect the content of the ad and be highly targeted. Curiouser and curiouser.

Link exchange means exchanging links with other quality websites to increase link popularity. A link exchange marketing campaign includes exchanging links with a website that is related to your company’s product or service. I’ll scratch yours if you scratch mine.
Link farms are web pages that have been built to increase the number of incoming links to a website in the hope of increasing search engine rankings. However, search engines think link farms are bad. Unlike Linkin Park who are a nu metal/hip hop band and are cool.
Link popularity refers to the quantity and quality of external links linking to a website. The more quality links there are the higher up the search engine rankings the site will appear. No external links and the search engine will assume your website is a Billy-no-mates.
Link rot is when links on a site become irrelevant or broken as the pages they are linking to have moved, been deleted or the content is no longer relevant. Not quite like foot rot but just as annoying.
Linkbaiting is all about having good linkbaits on your site or blog which encourages a heap of other sites to link to it. Linkbaits are good, funny, controversial and newsworthy content which reel in those links. Linkbaiting sort of sound like a bad thing but it isn’t.
A hypertext connection between two websites or two web pages is known as a hyperlink or link. An example is the search engine results page which lists links to websites. The search engines will also look for good quality incoming links when they rate your site. Known as the ‘links effect’.
A list broker sells or rents lists of information, normally mailing or email addresses, which can be used for targeted marketing campaigns. Use only a reputable list broker with an up-to-date list of opt-in email addresses - otherwise you’ll be accused of spamming. You have been warned.
Named after the shape created in a demand curve graph, Long Tail refers to the idea that if enough specialists, alternative and independent products are sold collectively they’ll make up a market to challenge the blockbusters. Long Tail is also one of the Dragons in Harry Potter.
Lurkers are frequent visitors to chat rooms, message boards and news groups but rarely join in the discussion. Lurkers may or may not wear dirty macs whilst lurking.
