Vblog

Vertical search engine

The Web is so huge that you can use vertical search engines to help you narrow down your search. So instead of going to Google to find a new job you’d go to Monster.co.uk instead. Or if you were looking for a car, Carpages.co.uk. Or freedesignerclothers.co.uk for clothes. Ok, that doesn’t exist.

Vertical social networks

Social networks that connect people who have very specific interests or passions are called vertical social networks. Vertical social networks are nothing to with people having to stand up to have a chat.

Video podcasting

Similar to podcasting, video podcasting or vodcasting delivers video clips (rather than audio files) of your fave TV shows direct to your PC via web feeds like RSS or Atom. They can then be downloaded to an iPod or portable media player. Makes airport queues bearable.

Viral marketing

Viral marketing is a marketing strategy which encourages users to pass on a marketing message, usually via emails, which spreads by word of mouth and creates a buzz. If you catch a marketing virus you should step away from your PC and lie down in a dark room.

Virtual community

A virtual community is an online community who share a common interest or ideas via email, blogs, chat rooms and newsgroups. Like real communities in the olden days before ASBOs, chavs, and reality TV. 

Virtual world

A virtual world is an online simulated world like Second Life where your online self (an avatar) can interact with other residents in real time and can attend virtual events. Interestingly, Avatars are always better looking than the real person.
