Here for the first time, in our fabulous Online PR and Social Media Glossary (phew), are our slightly tongue-in-cheek definitions for all the latest buzzwords doing the rounds.

(And writing them kept the immediate future team amused for at least a whole afternoon!)

Term Definition
FiskingTo savage a post, line by line, in a highly critical but often witty and sarcastic way is known as Fisking or to Fisk. The term is named after journalist Robert Fisk, an early recipient of Fisking. We should be thankful he wasn’t called Robertson-Smythe.
 
FlamePosting inflammatory and insulting comments on a blog is known as flaming. A flame, which is often a personal attack on the blogger, adds nothing to the discussion and often upsets and offends. Do this kind of thing in the real world and see what happens.

FlashturbationThe unnecessary and excessive use of Adobe Flash on websites is known as flashturbation. Loved by amateur web designers and 14 year olds everywhere, too much flashturbation can make you go blind.
