Don’t know your podcasting from your vodcasting? Confused as to the meaning of search engine optimisation? And what exactly is a blog? Or blogging? Or the blogosphere? Here for the first time, in our fabulous Online PR and Social Media Glossary (phew), are our slightly tongue-in-cheek definitions for all the latest buzzwords doing the rounds. (And writing them kept the immediate future team amused for at least a whole afternoon!) Any definitions you want to add? Email us at info@immediatefuture.co.uk | |

| Sticky content | Having sticky content or interesting information that is updated regularly will encourage your visitor to stay longer on your site. And then come back for more. Sticky content is good. Being sticky is kind of gross. |
| Stinger | Stingers are short clips of music or sounds effects. They’re handy for separating different parts of your podcast so your listener will know when one section has ended and another is about to begin. Ta-daaaaa is a stinger. |
| Streaming media | Streaming media is audio (sound) or video (picture) files that are transmitted on the internet and can begin playing as soon as they start being downloaded to your PC. Ideal for the chronically impatient. |
| Syndication | Syndication is the distribution of news articles from websites and blogs for the use on other websites via web syndication formats such as RSS and Atom. Cindy was also the youngest member of the Brady Bunch. |
| Tag Cloud | A tag cloud is a visual representation of the popularity of the tags or descriptions that people are using online. Popular tags are often shown in a large type and less popular in smaller type. So, on Flickr, the tag Party is shown large and the tag Hiking is small. Why are we not surprised? |

Search engine rankingWhere your site appears on the search engine results page is known as your search engine ranking. Position 1 on page 1 is ideal. Well, you can go to page 3 or maybe 4 at a push. After that you are in the search engine equivalent of Death Valley. Was that tumbleweed we just saw? More jargon-busting in our online PR glossary |
