Don’t know your podcasting from your vodcasting? Confused as to the meaning of search engine optimisation? And what exactly is a blog? Or blogging? Or the blogosphere? Here for the first time, in our fabulous Online PR and Social Media Glossary (phew), are our slightly tongue-in-cheek definitions for all the latest buzzwords doing the rounds. (And writing them kept the immediate future team amused for at least a whole afternoon!) Any definitions you want to add? Email us at info@immediatefuture.co.uk | |

| Usability | For your website to have good usability it must be easy to navigate, have a good layout, be consistent across all pages and have easy to find information. Aaaah…if only all websites were built this way. |
| User generated content (UGC) | User generated content is content created by people in the form of blogs, discussion groups, forums, wikis and photo and music sharing sites. Content can vary in quality and can often tell visitors more about the blogger than the subject matter. Buy hey, that’s ok. We’re all friends here. |
| Vblog | Vlog or Vblog. Short for videoblog. Refers to a blog that has video content. Vlog is also a big, beefy potato farmer from the Ukraine. |
| Vertical search engine | The Web is so huge that you can use vertical search engines to help you narrow down your search. So instead of going to Google to find a new job you’d go to Monster.co.uk instead. Or if you were looking for a car, Carpages.co.uk. Or freedesignerclothers.co.uk for clothes. Ok, that doesn’t exist. |
| Vertical social networks | Social networks that connect people who have very specific interests or passions are called vertical social networks. Vertical social networks are nothing to with people having to stand up to have a chat. |

ThreadMessages that have been posted on a blog or a discussion board as replies to each other are known as threads. By reading each message in the thread you can see how the discussion developed. Nice threads are what you wear out. Pronounced freds in London. More jargon-busting in our online PR glossary |
