Don’t know your podcasting from your vodcasting? Confused as to the meaning of search engine optimisation? And what exactly is a blog? Or blogging? Or the blogosphere? Here for the first time, in our fabulous Online PR and Social Media Glossary (phew), are our slightly tongue-in-cheek definitions for all the latest buzzwords doing the rounds. (And writing them kept the immediate future team amused for at least a whole afternoon!) Any definitions you want to add? Email us at info@immediatefuture.co.uk | |

| Video podcasting | Similar to podcasting, video podcasting or vodcasting delivers video clips (rather than audio files) of your fave TV shows direct to your PC via web feeds like RSS or Atom. They can then be downloaded to an iPod or portable media player. Makes airport queues bearable. |
| Viral marketing | Viral marketing is a marketing strategy which encourages users to pass on a marketing message, usually via emails, which spreads by word of mouth and creates a buzz. If you catch a marketing virus you should step away from your PC and lie down in a dark room. |
| Virtual community | A virtual community is an online community who share a common interest or ideas via email, blogs, chat rooms and newsgroups. Like real communities in the olden days before ASBOs, chavs, and reality TV. |
| Virtual world | A virtual world is an online simulated world like Second Life where your online self (an avatar) can interact with other residents in real time and can attend virtual events. Interestingly, Avatars are always better looking than the real person. |
| Vlog | Vlog or Vblog. Short for videoblog. Refers to a blog that has video content. Vlog is also a big, beefy potato farmer from the Ukraine. |

CommentA comment is when a visitor visits your blog, reads your post and writes something in response. The comment may be an attempt to create a discussion or just a congratulations on a well-written post. It’s always nice to reply to a comment. It gives you a warm glow.
