Glossary

Don’t know your podcasting from your vodcasting? Confused as to the meaning of search engine optimisation? And what exactly is a blog? Or blogging? Or the blogosphere?

Here for the first time, in our fabulous Online PR and Social Media Glossary (phew), are our slightly tongue-in-cheek definitions for all the latest buzzwords doing the rounds.

(And writing them kept the immediate future team amused for at least a whole afternoon!)

Any definitions you want to add? Email us at info@immediatefuture.co.uk

Term Definition
BlogosphereThe happy, smiley online community of blogs and bloggers is known as the blogosphere. It’s a place where you can exchange views, get advice and have a good time. It’s a bit like the Shire in Lord of the Rings.

BlogrollA blogroll is a list of links to other ‘interesting’ blogs and websites and is normally situated at the side of a blog. A blogroll is not the white paper stuff that sits next to the loo.

BlogThis!A click on the BlogThis! button on your browser tool bar will allow any article you are reading to be added to your own blog. A quick an easy way of adding cool content to your blog when you can’t think of anything interesting to say yourself.

Blooker PrizeIt had to happen. A literary prize for the best books based on blogs - blooks - is known as the Blooker Prize.  Entries have included the diaries of a dysfunctional flight attendant and the doorbells of Florence. No, really.

BookmarkingYou know how it is. You’ve just found an online flight to Fuerteventura for only £4.50 and now you can’t remember what site it’s on. In future save your fave site addresses by bookmarking them. Just click the bookmark button or the ‘add to favourites’ button on your browser tool bar. Ole.
